My Bio
I couldn’t pass up the unique opportunity to join the School of Dentistry at the University of Athens as Professor and Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Building on the University’s longstanding tradition of excellence, I focus on providing comprehensive surgical care and pushing the boundaries of our field through research, teaching, and international collaboration.
In 2010, I was appointed as a Consultant at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Medical University of Vienna. Four years later, in 2014, I became Director of the Tumor Outpatient Unit and launched a comprehensive Oral and Oropharyngeal Cancer Program, introducing state-of-the-art treatments and reconstructive techniques for head and neck cancer patients. In 2018, I became Professor and Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Athens. My expertise encompasses the full range of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, including facial trauma, oral surgery, cleft lip and palate repair, orthognathic surgery, facial plastic surgery, surgical oncology, and reconstructive surgery using microvascular free flap techniques.
My passion for advancing the field extends beyond clinical practice. As Education and Training Officer of the European Association of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery (EACMFS) and Director of the EACMFS Postgraduate Programmes in “Head and Neck Surgery: Oncology” and “Facial Plastic Surgery”, I collaborate with experts worldwide to refine educational curricula and surgical techniques.
In my current role, I direct the “Master in Oral Surgery” at the University of Athens, serve as Scientific Director of the “Master in Clinical Dentistry – Periodontology and Implantology” at the University Clinic of Dentistry of the Medical University of Vienna, and hold various teaching appointments, including adjunct professorship at the University of Rochester, New York (USA), visiting professorship at the University of Florida (USA), and visiting senior lecturership at the College of Medicine & Dentistry in Birmingham (UK).
My research focuses on improving outcome and quality of life for patients with head and neck cancer. It is a privilege to share knowledge and collaborate with colleagues across the globe in pursuit of better care for patients everywhere.
